If you are going to sell crafts online then you are going to need to come up with a craft business plan. If you start out without one then you are going to have a much harder time selling your crafts online then you need to.

1. Deciding where you want to sell crafts online.

One of the first things you need to do when putting together a craft business plan is to decide where to sell them. There are a few good places to sell your crafts online. The top two are Etsy and eBay. Since most crafts are handmade I would recommend selling your product on Etsy.

The main reason for this is because if you sell on eBay you are going to be going up against people who get product in bulk and dropped shipped which allows them to sell similar things in mass quantity’s and for cheaper then you can sell them when you are making them yourself.

Etsy however is becoming widely known for being a handmade craft marketplace. The people shopping on Etsy are only looking for quality handmade goods so even your browsers are much more targeted.

2. You need to decide how you are going to price and ship your product.

This is important to do your research on because if you are pricing your craft to high you are going to be very hard pressed to sell it. To research this is easy. Browse around Etsy and see what other people are selling similar items for. Pay s[special attention to the ones that have a lot of positive feedback because this means two things. The seller is selling a lot of their crafts and that the customers feel that they are getting a fair deal and are happy with their purchases.

3. You need to decide how you are going to market your craft store.

Besides having a good product at a reasonable price this is going to be the biggest factor in whether or not you have a successful business or not and the most essential part of your craft business plan.

You really only have two options here. You can either learn how to market your craft store yourself or you can pay someone to do it for you.

They both have positive and negative sides to them.

If you pay someone to market your craft store it will cost you a lot of money. Most likely in the thousands but you will have someone who knows how to get your store found quickly working on it for you.

If you decide you want to learn how to market your craft store yourself it is going to take time to learn. On average you can expect it to take you around four months to really have a good grasp of what you need to be doing to help people find your store.

On the flip side you can learn how to market your store yourself for a whole lot less then it would take you to pay someone. Plus you will always have the knowledge on how to do it so you can continuously market your store and have it grow basically for free once you know how.
